Our holographic display builds on the same principles as projector technology, but instead of projecting onto a screen or wall, we project onto microscopic particles suspended in mid-air.

In this experiment, particles are placed on a post positioned at our focal length (beam of rings) using a NIR laser beam 780nm. As the post is moved side to side and back and forth, the accumulated cluster of particles responds in real time, shifting and holding position with each movement. The particles move so precisely it is as if they are performing a kata, which is why we call it "The Karate Kid." This demonstrates the beam's ability to influence and control particle behavior through precise focal alignment and beam shaping.

Toner (carbon) micro-scale particles are introduced into the beam's field in alignment with the focal configuration. The optical setup is tuned to produce the specific forces required to influence particle behavior and trajectory. A thin metallic mesh sheet is positioned in front of a spherically expanded laser beam. The mesh interrupts and redistributes the beam's intensity pattern, reshaping it into structured high and low intensity zones that guide particles into a trajectory or direction.

Power per unit area is an essential factor in increasing trap stability. In this video we demonstrate how particle influence improves significantly, as particles slow down once entering the field. By increasing the laser power from 45mW to 80mW within the same spherical setup, we show a direct relationship between beam intensity and trapping effectiveness.
